Same carb. RJ is the broadcast code for that carb. Most OE carbs of that era had the broadcast code on it.

A core just sold on e-bay for a little over $115 so $90 is in line.

I assume you're talking about this one: What's the build date of your car? This is a mid Feb build date

Yes Mike, that is the one I was looking at. My car has a build date of 01C. Are these carb #'s for ALL 442's or just W-30's ? I am curious , when the carb and distributor #'s are mentioned for the W-30's does that mean only them or where these used on all 442's of that year?

The 7028251 was used for all big blocks (400's and 455's) in 68 with the exception of the Toro's and W30's. There is some evidence to suggest that the 7028253 was used very late in the production year for some manual trans 442's. (I think H/O's used 708255's and 7028251's but I got that from 442.com so I'm not sure)

With the 7028255 being the W31 carb, I think it is safe to say it was not used on the H/O.

Thank-you, this all helps. So the 68 4spd W-30 used 7028254, now what about 68 AUTO W-30 , what is the carb # for it ? Again, thank-you all for your knowledge. I am putting all in my notes so I can properly restore my two 442's.

In production, sure
I missed buying a parts car a long time ago due to lack of fundage
It had D heads, and an '8255 carb
Local gearheads probably used whatever W-machine parts worked best.

===================
I have a TSB that shows the engine unit number at which they switched the W30 usage from '8251 to '8254. Used to be on RealOldsPower.com; might be here somewhere- try a search on "7018151" & "7028254" & "date" or "TSB"

The 7028255 (W31) carb was used on all 68 non a/c Hurst Olds (W45).
The a/c cars (W46) received the 8251 carb.

Cheers,
Sam
