Stock Intake Manifold
Stock Intake Manifold
Team,
Intake Manifold (Stock Aluminum )84-86 307
While shopping at the local junk yard outside of Carson, I noticed an aluminum intake on a Buick, that looked stock. Moreover, it looked like my Olds intake. I pulled it and it is.
----
I am rebuilding my 68 350 and want an opinion.
Q. Is it worth cleaning up, or should I just buy a 3711(1)?

If it is an A4, go ahead and use it if you want to save a few dollars.
If it is an A5, I wouldn't bother. The a5 intkae was 1985-newer.
I don't think the a4 is any better than your stock iron manifold though, and if you have a divorced choke setup on your carburetor, it won't have that provision.

Agree, if it is a 800 cfm Qjet, it should be a late 70's model with hot air choke. I always convert them to electric. Not sure why Olds stayed with the hot air till the bitter end.
All you need to do is tune the Qjet you have and it will work like a champ. The Qjet may seem big at 800, but because of the way it works it will give you the drivability of a smaller carb. Remember, they had 800 Qjets on 307 smogger 80's engines. It's all in how they're set up. Taking a worn out Qjet off of engine X isn't usually going to work well on engine Y untill you rebuild it and do some re-jetting/tuning.
DoubleV, Q-jet, tracking!

Walking the dog last night I had the revelation, tune it up, the front hald is economy, back half, tighten the spring a little more... " the motor draws, so make it a little tighter" kind of thing.
