Motor Hesitation
Motor Hesitation
Got my 77 Omega with a chevy 305 in it running well at idle. Has a rochester 2 barrel carb, and it hesitates and tries to stall every time you press the accelerator. Once past that point if you jump on it the car runs fine. Any thoughts on what might be causing the hesitation?
Could be a little of all the above. When you step on the throttle pedal the carb opens up rather quickly and if the accelerator pump doesn't shoot lots of fuel into the airstream the engine bogs down. It is too lean and starving for fuel. If the vacuum advance is connected wrong or the timing is set incorrectly the engine will not be able to increase speed enough to accommodate all that fuel and air causing it to bog. A bad enough vacuum leak will cause both problems to occur at the same time.
