Dual exhausts for 1964 394 engine

I have a 1964 Olds Dynamic 88. It has a 394 Cubic inch, 8 cylinder engine in it with a 4 barrel carburator. It has 330 HP and a 10.25:1 compression ratio. It currently has single exhaust and I'd like to make it dual exhaust. Any ideas? I've been told that the 1961-64 Starfire had a 394 engine with 345 hp that had dual exhausts and the left hand side exhaust manifold from the Starfire would fit on my engine and allow me to convert to dual exhausts. I would appreciate any help on this.
Thanks.

Thorton Reproductions makes the manifold for the 65-70 (which I have) but I don't know if it will fit your '64. It might be worth a call.

The exhaust manifold from Thorton will not fit the 394. To put dual exhaust on your car you will need one of the driver's side exhaust manifolds from a Starfire engine, or you will have to get an exhaust shop to make you a custom set of headers. I have only seen the Starfire exhaust manifold once and it wasn't for sale. Custom headers are rather expensive.

Why can't you just go to a good muffler shop and have them block off the crossover pipe and make a new exhaust pipe and tailpipe. I am not familiar with the car but unless it has a really strange manifold on the drivers side, you should be able to do it.

Good luck.

Using the single exhaust LH manifold for duals requires weird bends and creates clearance problems around the starter and control arms. You need a 63 or 64 dual exhaust LH manifold. Make sure you get the heat riser too- single and dual exhaust parts are different. You can make the triangular block-off plate for the front port on the RH manifold out of 1/8" flat stock; gasket is fairly easy to find at any muffler shop.

BTW- there's more to a Starfire engine than just dual exhaust!

394 Exhaust manifold

I have a 1963 Olds Dynamic 88 and I would like to convert it to duel exhaust too. Are there any LH manifolds to be had out there to make this happen? Thanks

If you want to acquire one of these manifolds you need to keep an eye out on Evil-bay, go to swap meets, and post a parts wanted add in Hemmings. As I said, I have only ever seen one, and that was YEARS ago. Then again, I haven't been actively searching either.

They show up on ebay from time to time and usually go for a couple hundred depending on who's into the auction. An alternative is to join OCA or NAOC and make friends with some of the early 60s guys who may have one laying around.
