i have an exhaust leak on my 1975 rocket 350 5.7 and wonder if anyone had a diagram or could help me out with this problem....someone told me i needed o-rings but not sure wat to look for or where to look on my motor (how to be a mechanic for dummys <------)

O - rings is the wrong term. Donuts are the thick gaskets between the exhaust manifolds and flanged exhaust pipe.
I'd take it to an exhaust shop, as they have all the equiptment to do it correctly, and breaking a stud, which happens often, can be a real bag of worms!
Well worth spending the $$, IMO!!

 

Except an Olds 350 should have plain flanged connections, with no doughnuts.

Well, that's your job: To tell us where it's leaking from.

You've got the car right there with you. All we've got is a jumble of letters on a screen.

You need to go out there and take a look at it, and tell us where it's leaking from.

What makes you think it's leaking, anyway? Sound? Smell?

If it's sound, follow the sound to its source. It may be helpful to listen through a length of pipe to isolate the source.

If you just can't tell, let the engine cool down, then start it up and feel for a breeze around every joint with your hand, as quickly as you can before it gets too hot.

We can only help you if you give us enough information.

Seriously, J...we can help but we do need a little more information than what you gave. It could be a manifold gasket or a collector gasket, or it could even be a rusted out hole in the pipe...

We can only give you back what you give us. Can you get a better idea of where it is coming from?

 

This is in your 65 88 right? Need to know whether you used the original exhaust manifolds or the 1975 pieces as they are different.

Easiest way I know to find an exhaust leak is to get a length of 3/8" fuel line, put one end up to your ear and then move the other end around any place that might leak. Believe me you WILL hear it. This includes:

-manifold to head joint
-around where the manifolds connect to the exhaust pipes
-heat riser valve if car has one
-around the choke hot air tube on right side of intake (also take aircleaner off and listen for a pfft where the choke tube hooks to the carb)

Then do a close inspection on your exhaust system to make sure no holes in the exhaust pipes or mufflers.

But yeah, pay the muffler guy to do it. It might cost a little, but they do this stuff every day and know how to deal with broken bolts.
