A couple days ago I read this magazine article that said that the bolts that hold the carburetor in place tend to losen up with the engine heat overtime thus creating vacuum leaks. Consequently every so often you have to tighten them carefully. I checked mine out yesterday and they were pretty loose. I was able to losen losen them with my hand. After seing this I carefully tightened the bolts. It didnt help my power much but at least I can say I have less vacuum leaks now.

Even new cars have to have all of their bolts checked after a while. Good save!

Yeah, I was chasing a phantom problem once that was finally traced to the same thing. The car had terrible acceleration like when merging into a highway. Turned out that was the problem. The car would actually buck because the faulty vacumm signal was fooling the carb into dumping fuel in spurts.
