One winter project on the list is replacing the fuel sending unit on my 72 Cutlass. Looking for comments and recommendations on which brand.
Seems that Spectra Premium and Dorman are the two common ones. I can't find anything different except the price.
Anyone have good/bad reviews about either?

Dorman does not have a very good reputation in the automotive repair shop world. AC Delco shows one. That would be my first choice. There might be different ones depending on the engine. It is the same as for a Chevelle and Monte Carlo Part number FLS1088

 

I've put three Spectra Premium sending units in my old cars, and all have worked fine.

I don't agree about the poorness of Dorman parts. I've got a fair number of Dorman parts in my old cars, and I've never had a problem. But I would go with Spectra Premium in this case.

You're lucky you have a choice. For the full-size cars I've needed sending units for, Spectra Premium has been the only option.

 

I was trying to remember which one I bought from Summit 5 years ago, worked perfectly. It is this one, just add R for a return on the end of the part number.

It depends on which Dorman part. I have bought wheel studs and nuts, they were fine. The Dorman are best replacement parts for the crossover and oil cooler for the Dodge Pentastar V6. Aluminum vs the factory plastic. There is some question on the gaskets included of their quality. I have both on the basement shelf, if they fail along with a PUG intake.

Thanks for all the comments. I'm leaning toward the Spectra Premium. A bit more cash, but I only want to do this once.
I didn't know they made an electronic sending unit, but that seems more involved. But I'm keeping it as stock as possible for as long as possible.
