I'm 100% new. I have 2 questions. 1st noticed when engine is running fuel in fuel filter was bubbly. Sign of fuel pump going bad? 2nd I have idiot light for engine temp. If I used a lazer temp gun what do you guys think temp should be?
What kind of glass filter are you using? Some of those multipart cheap fuel filters are extreme fire hazards. Regardless, the bubbles mean nothing and the engine temp will be whatever it reads. Once you establish the temp, then you can ask your question/s. You can use an Infared pointed at thermostat housing or you can install an aftermarket temp gauge.
As said a one piece plastic filter away from anything too hot is fine. The metal end glass filter with plastic screen inside can vibrate apart and cause fires. Bubbles are fine, as long it supplies the fuel needed you are good. For temp, anything over 220 is getting too warm. Assuming a 195 thermostat, you should see maybe 210 but depends on outside temperature. Point the gun at multiple points, the thermostat outlet, rad inlet and outlet plus right at the sensor itself. What rad, fan and does it have a shroud?
Transparent aftermarket fuel filters probably account for more questions than anything else here. Get a solid metal one and stop worrying about it. Wix 33333 is a good inline filter for a 3/8" hose. If you're really concerned about fuel delivery, get a fuel pressure gauge and monitor it during wide open throttle operation. That's when it matters.

thank you. Old cutlass. The filter is a big glass one. New one. The young man I bought car from his dad was in process of restoring car unfortunately he passed. So car is 90 percent. I'm just dealing with a bunch of little things. This forum has been a huge help I've been reading things for last several days. I will purchase a lazer temp gun. Didn't want mess with originality of dash yet. Thanks again. Maybe I'll look into replacing that fuel filter even though its new.
