I’m using a factory delco-remy electronic distributor on a 70 350. It’s going into a ram air car. The distributor doesn’t clear the air cleaner as the old points set up did. It’s wider and the cap is taller. Any suggestions for an electronic distributor that has the same footprint as the factory one?
Any points conversion system that goes in the original distributor. Also any aftermarket small body electronic distributor. Or, just keep the points, which will be more reliable than any of those aftermarket systems.
MSD 8529 ready to run is a small cap 3-wire electronic distributor which is same as OEM physical design. Pricey but essentially simple to set and forget.
Not to the point of your question, but in the realm of need-to-know:
You have a taller-than-factory intake and a carb spacer. This stackup will probably be too tall to fit a W-25 air cleaner adapter between the air cleaner housing and the hood.
As well, you appear to have a non-restricted heater hose adapter. If so, your heater core life will be short and leaky.
You can add a spacer to have the air cleaner sit above the distributor which is what I did in my 72. Used a Delco Remy 1975 distributor in my car. Worked well.

Thanks, I’ll be changing the heater hose fittings after I install it. The observation about the W-25 system I’ve already been looking at. I’ll probably change the intake and carb after it runs. Thanks for everyone’s advice!

Actually, the lower height of the SBO probably allows enough room even with that combo. Just use the shorter BBO foam on the air cleaner adapter.

Joe,
thanks for the advice. I was going to install the engine and go from there. It’s really nice to have all this information and experience available!
I just measured the distance between the top of the valve covers and top of the carburetor where the air cleaner sits on an original w-30 455. It’s 3 1/2“, on the 350 it’s 3 3/8”. Pretty close to even. I’ll see how it fits in.
