washing engine for repaint

Anybody have any suggestions for a cleaner that leaves no residue for wiping down my engine prior to repainting?

Best to use brake cleaner or lacquer thinner

If the engine is currently BARE, yes, a couple cans of brake clean in a well ventilated area and with a respirator on. Hose it down and then use compressed air to dry and get it outta the nooks and crannies.

If the engine is onna stand you can use one of those small kids pools under it to catch alot of the goo. I try to scrape offas much grease and buildup as possible first.

Water and Dawn dish soap doesn't leave a reside and is less caustic than brake cleaner. You'll have to scrub it with a brush to get the nastiness off though.

Interesting video on using a torch to get the moisture out of the iron before painting a block.
