Question BBO to SBO Swap

I am trial installing a 350 SBO into a 1964 Cutlass that had a 455 BBO in it.

Upon initial installation, using the same motor mounts (2261) it seems that the SBO sits further forward than the BBO did.. such as more space between the block & firewall and less space between the water pump and radiator with electric fans. I know that the dimensions are different, but this kind of surprised me

It all seems to fit, but is different so I thought I would ask the brain trust.. Is This Correct??

Thanks,

Thirdcoast

Are you using the correct 64 water pump and radiator or a later version of either?

Water pump is newer with inlet on pass side..it is the 6" pump.. I may change it later to the shorter pump, but did not want to mess with it for now,.

Radiator is a new Griffin with fans, but made to original dimensions.. dual Spal Fans

Everything hooks up, just trying to find out if the space at the back of the block is usual..

The BBO fit ok, but just had more room at the front and less at the back.. just the opposite with the SBO..

Need to use the short 5.1 inch pump. 6 inch one will not work on early cars up to 67

It sits forward because you bolted the motor mounts to the wrong bolt holes in the block. There are THREE motor mount bolt holes on the side of the block. The J88 mounts bolt to the FRONT two of those.

Wait, you have a Cutlass? Sorry, I'm mixing up threads.

Just curious. Why pull the 455?

It probably looks shorter at the back by the firewall because the deck height of a 350 is shorter than the deck height of the 455. At the front, post #4 above should answer that.
