We have a 1972 Cutlass S with a 350 two barrel engine. The alternator is on the passenger side right above the fuel pump. We (my son and I) got a new fuel pump but the new one looks different and we can't get the alternator bracket back on with the fuel supply connected. I've attached what the new and old one look like and what the new one looks like with the bracket installed. How might I make this work as all the new fuel pumps seem to be the same. New fuel pump installed. Old fuel pump New one with alternator bracket installed.
As you can see the intake sticks into the open area of the bracket.
The photo of the old one is rotated 90 degrees. Here is how it looks normally.
notice how the input port is down along the side. This allows for room for the bracket. I'm wondering where I can find one like this.
Thanks. I was doing some digging and found this exact part on RockAuto and ordered it this morning. Also ordered a new fuel sender unit. I just hope the gas tank isn't completely rusted and unusable.
My son really wants to get this thing running. The only bad thing about where we live is the parts stores don't exactly carry much for this old of a car. I just hope he can return the one he got yesterday.

No parts stores anywhere stock much in the way of parts for cars that are over half a century old. It makes no financial sense to waste shelf space on parts that they might sell once a year.
Does anyone know of a Canadian supplier for parts? While I don't mind ordering from the US, usually duty and taxes then add shipping it gets more expensive.
RockAuto is the first place I check, unless I am broke down on the road.
Or Ebay , was looking for a new Carter M4871 here in Sweden but impossible , waiting for a fuelpump from Texas now
from Bill Bunton Auto Supply. The fuel pump have been out of stock at Rockauto for a while now.
I needed a new fuel pump a while back i checked every oreillys, cap, advanced auto and autozone in a 30 mile radius (probably about 10+ stores total NADA!!!
I was kinda surprised even tho as Joe said its 50years old
Most stores did have an option for 1 or 2 days to get it so probably stored in a regional warehouse

I ordered this morning and it shipped fedex just before noon. Should be here Monday morning. At least I'll have one. Like I say I got the fuel sending unit for the tank. I just hope I don't need it right away as dropping the tank is a pain.

I just did my sending unit too. Wasnt too bad, but from your engine pic your tank might be a little harder to drop than mine no rust and all clean)
I used a motorcycle jack to hold and lower the tank and raise it back up it worked very good
