Correct radiator for my build?

Is this the correct radiator for my Olds 350 V8? I ask because if I were to add AC would the radiator need to be sized this is the low end price.

The radiator needs to match the CAR in addition to the engine. Your 64 uses a downflow radiator. The one in your post is a crossflow radiator. It will not fit your car. Your other problem is water pump inlet location. 1964 330 motors used a one-year-only driver side water pump inlet. The radiator ports need to match. If you are using the 1965-90 style water pump with the inlet on the passenger side, you will need a radiator for a 1965 Cutlass, which is also downflow but has the lower port on the passenger side.

IDK if thats correct or not.

things you need to consider are the size width and height as well as the location and diameter of the inlet and outlet, also if an auto trans if the rad has a tranny cooler.

i think your car could have come w a 400 or a 330 i would try and find a radiator that fits your year and the largest engine size availible.

Otherwise you may be trying to shoehorn a radiator into a space where it does fit without modification.

if the inlet or outlet diameters dont match exactly you may be able to fit a size up or down w an adapter. I had to use one on my car to keep my old rad when i swapped to a bbo.

also if you add your car details in your posts more people will understand what your trying to accomplish. Ie sbo 350 going in place of original v6 in a 64 f85. Im not as familar w the earlier models like yours.
good luck

Thank you thank you. Didn't give enough thought to the port location and looking at the water pump that port would be on the passenger side

Sorry for the twisted image

Yeah you're right Retro should list some details. Swapping out a 1964 Buick V6 225cid with a 1976 Olds V8 350 in a 1964 Olds F85 Sports Coupe.

The 1964 V8 cars used one of two different radiators. Both had the lower port on the driver side to match the 1964 water pump inlet. Both used a core that is 15-5/8 tall x 24-3/4 wide. US Radiator sells three and four row versions.
The non-A/C cars had the upper port on the driver side also to route the upper hose away from the alternator.

A/C cars had the upper port on the passenger side due to the alternator being moved to make room for the A/C compressor.

The 1965 cars used radiators with the lower port on the passenger side to match the 1965-newer water pump. The the 1965 core is 17-3/8 high x 24-3/4 wide. This unfortunately is a problem fitting in the 1964 core support and requires the core support to be modified. US Radiator also sells these in three row and four row.

A/C radiators have the top port on the passenger side.

As before, non-A/C radiators have the top outlet on the driver side.

If you don't want to swap the 350 over to the 1964 style water pump (which also requires you to change the accessory brackets and timing tab, and to scribe a new TDC mark on the 350 balancer), then you should probably talk to US Radiator and see if they can build a 1964 radiator with the bottom tank from a 1965 radiator. That will give you the correct height radiator to fit your core support without having to cut it.

EDIT: It turns out that US Radiator sells a four row radiator for the 64-65 Pontiac Tempest that has the lower port on the passenger side. The core height and width are the same as those on the original 1964 Cutlass radiator. That should bolt right in and match up with your 1965-later water pump.

I bought a new aluminum radiator from Rock Auto for my '64 Cutlass. They sent the wrong one, as their website was wrong. They sent the one with the upper radiator hose on the driver side. Mine has the upper radiator hose on the passenger side ('64 only year to do so?)
They didn't want to give me a full refund, but I schooled them with this thread. Then they wrote back.

to me

Dear Rick,
We’re sorry for the problem with your order. We discovered that we had an error on our website, and the part you purchased will not fit your vehicle. As this is our mistake, we will issue you a full refund for the part and associated shipping.

So I guess they will now change their website. Summit Racing has it wrong too.

Thanks Joe.

Glad that worked out for you, but don't hold your breath on the website catalog change. A decade later they still have motor mounts listed incorrectly (and since RA does have a membership on this site, I HOPE they are listening!).

The problem is that most of these big box vendors just replicate the applications that their suppliers tell them.
