Question Cam break in question....

I'm moving a cam from my defunct engine to the swap 350. The cam was never broken in. Do I need anything besides the moly lube for install? its a Edelbrock Performer Plus. Lucas TB Zinc Break in additive was suggested buy the auto parts guy. I'm just wondering if it was needed since I don't recall Edelbrock suggesting any oil additive in the instructions and the Moly lube has zinc in it. Any help that could be offered would be great.

Hey:Moly coat it and your good to go. Not familiar with the Lucas TB oil, todays oils do not contain the amount of zinc they used to. If its affordable I say go for it, if your running roller lifters & cam, skip it.

Its flat tappet cam with hydraulic lifters. The fact that oil zinc content has dropped was the reason they suggested the Lucas TB additive

$13 is cheap insurance. After the breakin and oil change, I use a half bottle of the GM cam breakin oil, and use diesel Chevron Delo 15-40 oil.

Use a good quality oil and forget the additives. The GM EOS is not what it use to be. I use Brad Penn oil, they even have a breakin oil. There oil has all the zinc and Phos you need. Jkaz
