Hello folks. I am new to the forum and have a question (of course I do) for you all!
I have a 1929 Ford sedan hot rod. It has an Olds engine and a GM350 trans. I was told it is a 70/71 Olds 350 5.7L motor.
From the below listed block and casting numbers, can anyone tell me exactly what this motor is? Year, HP, what it came out of?
Engine Block: 33M362984, 395558 2
Cylinder Heads: 411929, 8
Thanx

Looks like you have a 1973 vintage 350. The casting number 395558 was used for 350s until 1977(?). The number 8 heads (411929) were used 1973-76. The partial VIN stamping 33M362984 is the key. The first 3 is for Olds division, the second 3 is for 1973, the M is Lansing, MI, and the last six digits are the last numbers of the cars VIN. If the trans is from the same car, the 362984 will be stamped on the transmission as well.

Lots of stuff you can do with that. First would be to put early 350 heads on it. From there there are lots of aftermarket pieces available. Kinda cool, an old Ford with an Olds powerplant, neat.

Early heads with a cleanup mill and .027" or .028" head gaskets will give 9 to 1 vs 7.9 to 1 stock. I did the same with a stock 76 350. 62 to 64cc #6 heads, .028" Rocket Racing head gaskets, bought the last pair they had for right around 9 to 1 with the 14cc stock pistons. 025" to .030" in the hole. I also did a custom 214/214 cam from Cutlassefi. You need stall with it, especially if it has highway gears but a 70 Cutlass is way heavier, so it may not be required. It probably needs the nylon timing set changed anyways, do a mild cam swap at the same time, stock cam is less than 200 duration. Also buy or make an EGR block off plate. A big EGR valve uglies up an otherwise beautiful SBO. Agreed cool car with a unique power plant.
