I just bought a 1983 Cutlass Supreme 2door at a auction how can i find out what motor i got? i know it is a v8

 

It should have a 307. Look at the front of the engine on the drivers side, there should be a "5A" stamped on the head near the spark plug hole.

Between the timing chain and the manifold you should see this number: 3161

The heads are correct, but is it has this number on the block it is a 1980-1984 307

 

Didn't alot of Cutlass Supremes from '83 come with Chevy 305s? If your oil fill neck is front and centre of the engine, it's an SBO 307. Another Chev vs. Olds giveway is the distributor; if it goes through the intake manifold, it's a Chevy. If not, it's probably the aforementioned Olds 307.

I had a 79 cutlass that had a 260 in it and its a v-8 also
