What the heck is wrong with V belts these days?

What the heck is wrong with V belts these days?

Why in the heck do these belts stretch so much? I adjusted the new belt twice and it loosened up and destroyed itself an hour and half later. I have to buy belts a size smaller to allow for stretch, which takes 4 or more adjustments.

I use Goodyear (now called Continental) Gatorback Poly belts and don't have the problems I used to have. Most of the time only one adjustment after a few hours of run time.

Gates is what Napa belts are supposed to be and they usually need less adjustments than the Canadian Tire Mexican Torque Twist belts. The belt was just the start yesterday. A belt that is mid way in the tension shouldn't run out of tension due to stretch. I like the Goodyear belts, just need to find a local dealer.

I usually buy all the old belts at swap meets new never used but old. I always keep 3 spares in the car because I have tossed them at the track. My current dayco has been the best one yet. 2 years and no toss and no loss.

X2, my local auto parts store carries them and so far so good.

I used to be able to get the Dayco belts right across the street from where I worked. USA made and a reasonable amount of stretch. Again, I need a local source.

I am finding that the ability to build a decent belt is lost once we went to multi rib serp. I think they are softer and the width dimension is a bit thin to start with and in a short time they wear and sink on the pulleys, simulating stretch.
