W-X exhaust manifolds on a small block.
W-X exhaust manifolds on a small block.
I have more or less put the header idea on the back burner for now, and am wondering if the big block W-X exhaust manifolds will fit the 330 in my 67 Cutlass. I know they will bolt to the engine. I'm just wondering if there is room for them in the 67 chassis. Oil filter clearance is not a big problem; if it is a problem at all. I could always use a remote oil filter mount.
Any help with this question would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Not familiar with the '67 Cutlass frame but I do know that the B bodies of that era had rear mounted steering box which caused interference and almost disqualified the use of headers anyway. Don't know if that would be an issue with the w-x manifolds, probably not.
I assume that you're talking about the 68-older X/W manifold set, not the 69-72 W/Z set. The latter definitely will not fit on a small block due to interferences with the motor mounts, oil filter adapter, and other problems.
The X/W manifolds are somewhat smaller than the W/Z manifolds, but that difference is due to the fact that they do not have the individual runners. That's one of the reasons the W/Z manifolds flow better. I'm a somewhat of a loss to understand why the X/W set would be any advantage over stock SBO manifolds.
Joe, I'm not sure they would flow better. But they sure look like they would.
Presently, I have the usual passenger side SBO manifold with the crossover pipe cut off and welded shut. It's just ugly and doesn't appear conducive to good flow with it's downward configuration for the now defunct crossover.
