Under Pressure

After my unnecessarily difficult time replacing a power steering pump that didnt need replaced, i seem to have developed a few problems.

For starters, the power steering pump/pully is way to close to my alternator belt for comfort, i think that may have to do with the fact that i have a left over washer.

Second, i went to take her for a spin aroynd the block and immediately as i was taking off i realized the oil pressure gauge was maxed out. The car, however, drove fine but i was terrified. What could have gone wrong?

Also, while where at it, where should the oil pressure typically sit at while idling, accelerating, etc.

Check the wire leading to the sender. You may have disturbed it when doing your work.

Well the prong itself broke off, that would solve the oil pressure problem.

Could anyone tell me where the oil pressure should normally stay at?

Say 35-40 psi warm, can go as low as about 10 at idle hot.

You should be able to get a new one at the parts store.

Yeah, that's okay, and should be the max, because the oil pump relief valve should be set to about 60psi.
