Thinking low dollar Olds 350 build

Ok, so my Corolla is a write off, hit a deer. It means I need another vehicle that fits all 5 of us. I am thinking of a used Dakota club cab 4x4 V6. That would mean the Olds powered 4x4 would be stripped down. I am planning on using the TBI on my Cutlass, just buy a rebuilt and bored oversize along with the TV cable stud throttle body. Thinking the 50mm 700 cfm model would work well with any future mods. The motor is currently a 76 stock bottom end with 83 5A 307 heads. The motor has 140-155 compression and 40-50 psi hot cruising oil pressure. The cylinders looked good, minimal ridge a couple of years ago. It has leaking rear main and wasn't using oil till I parked it for 3 months, has burnt oil since. I have 2 options, get regular, non moly rings, standard bearings, oil pump, use my Cloyes street roller from the 403, gaskets and .011" head gaskets from Smitty. With my 14cc pistons around .030" in the hole with the 5A heads gives me 9.3 to 1. I was thinking a better cam degreed to give maximum cylinder pressure along with matching springs and retainers. I would also attempt a pocket port, grind the port roofs and maybe a three angle valve job and minor milling. Option B is what most would like, but can add up quick. Either the CP pistons, block honed and stock rods reworked or standard Speed Pro pistons, pressed onto stock rods. I would think after a dingle berry hone my cylinders would have adequate clearance. This would mean #8 heads off the 403 with maybe a bowl hog on the exhaust side and three angle valve job. Depends Pro Comps might not be much more and flow much better. I get low to mid 9 to 1 depending head gasket, CC and where the pistons sit. I also have a good 330 crank .010" rods, .020" mains, balancer and flex plate. I am still planning my 403 stroker but can take much more time to do it. I don't want my car sitting for 2+ years. I want a motor that can run low 9's in the 1/8. I figure if I can push 180 psi cranking pressure, even with the crappy 307 heads, it should get there. I am also upgrading the 2004r, thinking 2500 stall CK convertor, shift kit etc. The 4L60E will be sold, don't want to cut the drive shaft etc. Plus it will yield $500 for the build. A Torsen posi and 28 spline Moser axles with girdle cover will go in the 3.42 7.5". Those two push the budget but should be done. Any thoughts or suggestions?

If all you want is a fun car and low 9.xx, kep it simple. My 9 to 1 355 ran 8.9x with a 3.42 in a heavier car. Here is what I would do assuming the pistons and bores are OK. Deck the block .015 and use .028 gaskets. Less issues than with the shim gaskets. Get some old 350 heads, good valve job and a little port work, 9 to 1 should be easy. You can always re-use them on the stroker. I do not think you are going to get there with the 307 heads. I have the 210/216 Engle, but anything similar will work fine. Then, basic stuff, intake, carb, exhaust, TUNING. Low 9s should be a breeze and it will be reliable and fun to drive. It would be silly to bore w/new pistons if you are planning the stroker. IMHO.

I agree on the 307 heads, they must flow awful. They work well in the 4x4 where low rpm power is key. I may just pony up for Procomp or Edelbrock heads. I need about 65cc for the stroker build anyways.
