TH350 tail shaft

Are all the th350 tail shafts 6 inches for 1970-72?

Looking to replace my 1971 Cutlass TH350 and not sure what tail shaft.

there was a thread a little about this yesterday. the Vista Cruiser has a longer tailshaft but as far as i know all the others would be the same. the Vista is 6 inches longer in 1970 but i can't say for sure about other years.

Yes. I saw that post but wanted to be sure before I handed the money over for the used transmission. It came out of a 1985 cutlass V8.

thanks

All the TH350s in A-bodies these years (except for the wagons, apparently) should be short-tail.

An 85 cutlass v8 probably would have a 200C transmission, not a th350.

They are the same length though, and it would work.

OK here is the complete story. He got the th350 trans from a 1970 olds RAM-ROD 350 and put it in his 1985 olds. He think he is running a 403 Olds motor.

So I need a 4 inch tail shaft not a 6 inch? How do I measure it?

Well, if the Tran's us from a '68 to '72 A-body, it should fit in a '68 to '72 A-body .

if it is a TH350 it is very likely the right tail shaft. the tail shaft housing is 6 inches long on the short tail transmission and the tail shaft housing is 12 1/8 long on the long tail transmission. measured from the rear seal to the gasket area between the case and the tail shaft housing. if you look at the pictures i posted on the other thread you can see it is much longer.

Deal is off. When I called the guy back he said the trans is not from a 1970 cutlass but a 1985 cutlass V8.
