starting problem

like a week ago,at a stop sign, car shut off on me.It would start and as soon as i put it on drive it would shut off.So to be able to drive it out of the steet.I pressed on the gas and the put it on drive...it misfired but i was able to drive it to a nearby parking lot.while parked i was able to turn the car on but it sounded like it was running out of gas.after a min car shut off and i havent been able to turn it on.checked if car was getting gas and it is carb jets spraying.Changed points(yeah still have them).just in case they burned.still not starting.Any more things that i should check.Info:1972 cutlass supreme 350 4 bb

The old internet diagnostic trivia game.
Gas sprays? That is not specific enough for me.
You need to see 2 nice fat streams of fuel when you depress throttle.

Your engine needs only 3 things to fire up.
1 compression (including well timed valve events).
2 fuel (a lot more than most people think)
3 timed spark (a nice fat juicy spark)

Your explanation makes me think that the fuel filter is clogged.
Can you determine your float level?
Anything more is just guessing.

Check all vacuum hoses and caps (if any) for cracks, breaks - obvious stuff.
Carb bolts should be secure.

It sounds like either fuel or ignition.
When it will not start, pull center disty wire and place close to a metal engine ground and crank it. A nice fat blue spark should jump. If you do not have it, check points again. Suspect the coil if still original.

If you get spark, then check fuel filter and with fuel like connected, place end in coffee can and crank - quite a bit of gas should come out if pump and tank screen are okay. Next suspect fuel filter and carb.
