smoke in engine

smoke in engine

I had a leak on one of the heater hoses. so i changed it.also decided to clean engine..car worked without a problem.today noticed that white smoke started to appear from the pipe that connects to the air cleaner(hot air pipe) any suggestions?

Not knowing what your car is-is it the 'pipe' that comes from the shield around the exhaust manifold to the aircleaner,or the hose that goes from the valve cover PCV valve to the aircleaner? How did you clean your engine? ---bil

its a 1972 cutlass supreme 350 and its the pipe that comes from the exhaust manifold. i used engine degreaser.

Smoke inside the engine is normal. When it escapes, it is abnormal...

Sounds like what you have is oily water and residue burning off the exhaust manifold. It should stop after a while when it all burns off. If it seems to always do it after startup, the valve covers are leaking oil and need new gaskets.

it was actually one of the heater hoses that was leaking on the pipe...thank you all for your help
