Rocket or ramrod 350, Stupid question maybe, but what's the difference? How can you tell which is which? Or is there a difference or are they the same?

 

I thought the Ram Rod was a 400 G block?

 

You can tell by the double thick balancer. The Ram Rod 350 was the early name for the W31 high performance option. Flat top pistons, .474/.308 cam and 2"/1.625" valves along with a much thicker harmonic balancer made a potent package. Rated at 325 HP but supposedly made 360 HP.

definitely under rated these are cars that were quicker then the g blocks even the 68 W30 during test times.

Also the 255 carb and what mist don't know it was one of the most efficient ram air designs. At 15 mph it was effective due to air being forced off the bumper.

 

To clarify, EVERY Oldsmobile V8 has been called "Rocket" at one time or another since 1949 (except, of course, the 215, which was the Rockette). It is a meaningless marketing term. Ram Rod was Oldsmobile's term for the Outside Air Induction (O.A.I.) engines in 1968-69, both the 350 and the 400.
