1968 F85 RamRod clone

With the help of a great friend I was able to pull a new project to storage yesterday. It was local and has been sitting for 6 years. After a cleanup I will try and get it running and driving while I collect parts. So some info on the car:
1968 F85
Jade Gold with base Parchment interior code 917
3 spd on the floor
Bench seat
Vinyl floor
Manual steering
Manual drum brakes
350 2 barrel

currently has aftermarket a/c. That'll be dumped soon. Here are some pics.

Plans are for a RamRod build to race in the Pure Stock Muscle Car Drags held in Michigan. It's gonna take forever but it's a car that I've wanted forever. Now I can just tinker and drive my '72!
More pics.

Has rust in all the usual places but not "severe". I've seen worse and the price was right! I may have found most of the pieces I need from a friend of a friend. He has an S hood, maybe the fender I need and some other misc. I'm stoked!!!

NIce car. It will be alot of fun when its done. Just to let you know I just listed several parts on Ebay for a 68 F-eighty five that I found in a junk yard over last week. If it wasnt to far gone I would have liked to add it to my collection but it is pretty rough.

Good luck with the project.

Well my buddy pulled home a nice 69 S project/parts car. So he needed room in storage where my 68 was. So now the 68 is home next to the '72 in the garage. It's tight but the 68 is on skates and the '72 drives so it's workable.

Now the fun starts. CLEANUP. YUK!!!

1968 What a great year

Absolutely beautiful! That's my favorite model year. What a great project! Do you have a motor for it? Or will you build the original to the W-31 specs?

Send pictures of your progress.

Nice project Looks about like mine did when I brought it home on a trailer. The guy across the street from me thought I bought a parts car when he saw it! Good luck with the build!

Wink

Almost 3 years after getting this car I am ready to start the resto. So I have questions for seasoned vets of frame off restorations. I have more time then money so this will be stretched out for a long time.
1. What did you focus on in the beginning?
2. Did you break it up in steps or phases? If so how would you order them.

Trying to get a game plan together and not get bogged down. Any help appreciated.

bag and tag EVERYTHING !!!!!

my order would be frame, chassis, drivetrain, body ,interior

body depends on sheet metal repair but I prefer a finished rolling chassis wrapped in plastic then drop the body back on for any work needed

gee, thats sounds familiar take pics of everything before taking it apart too. digital pics are great reference for later, plus no film to develop. like mentioned, I'd concentrate on the rolling chassis first.
