OK I bought a new oil tube for my 330 so I can have a screw on cap since the push on cap will stand out too much for a sleeper project.

Anyway, how to get the old one out and the new one in? I was going to do this with a timing chain change. I was going to bang it out, putting a piece of wood between the bottom of the tube and the hammer and do the same thing installing the new one. Is this right?

You could try using the wood to hit the tube side to side to loosen it and then bang it from the bottom...

I use a rubber mallet, medium strikes, side to side, front to back, usually 3 or 4 hits loosens it enough to wiggle it out.

You cannot get to the bottom of the oil fill tube to tap it out - the casting blocks access even with the timing chain off.

Wood on top or rubber mallet-yes; but before you strike, put oil cap on to see if the tabs or ears of the cap line up the way you want, then remove and go for it...
