Ready To Run Distributor Install

I have a Mallory Comp 9000 (PN 9163401) ready to run distributor that I would like to install next weekend and need some assistance.

I have a completely stock points unit with the stock coil setup, but I'm not familiar with ballast resistors or connecting them to a stock system. Only ever connected pickup cables and crank triggers before.

Do I need to run a ballast resistor?

What color is the stock ignition wire going to the + side of the coil?

What is removed from the stock system that is no longer needed?

The Mallory has the following:
See instructions for the Mallory - http://www.jegs.com/InstallationInst...50-3748201.pdf

Also, have an MSD 6AL that may go in, but I'll get the distributor installed and working before pursing that end of it.

Thanks.

Use the install instructions Figure #2 with your stock wiring. You won't need the ballast resistor supplied with your new distributor because you have a stock resistance wire.
