pulleys not lining up on 350

I am having trouble lining up my pulleys on my Olds 350 in my 72 cutlass convertible. The motor had the alt on the passenger side and I wanted to put my AC back on so I took the pulleys off of my 1970 455 and tried to put them on the 350. Needless to say I have fitment issues.
Am I missing something? I thought the pulleys were universal between olds motors.

Your problem is probably that the water pumps are different lengths on the 2 motors. If you cant find a pulley to fit, then your solution can be to take the water pump off the 455 and put it on the 350. That way you will have moved the entire pulley combination to the other motor?

OK! I noticed the old water pump was a huge 2 groove pulley and I thought that might have had something to do with it.

The pulleys correspond with the length of the water pump being used. Grooves in the pulley dont matter. Its the shaft length that differes. Generally there are 3 different ones. Short one is approx 5.2", med is 5.6" and long one is 6.0" - measured from timing cover to the fan/pulley mount.
Measure both of yours --- and if they are different, then you have to use the pump that was working with the pulleys for that pump. If this is you problem and you dont want to switch the pump --- then you could always go out and buy a new one like the one on the 455 and put it on the 350. Either way will solve your problem.

The water pump, pulleys, and brackets MUST be used as a matched set. Also, did you install the two spacers between the PS pump bracket and the block?

Well, I fixed the problem. I did what one of you suggested and used the water pump from my 455 and installed it on my 350 and now all the pullies line up straight and true. Thank you guys. I've now connected my AC again and its blowing cold
