Pontiac brackets & pulleys

I have looked at
http://transamcountry.com/community/...?topic=39790.0

and it helps a lot....
local guy has a 455 in a T/A that came with a 403-MT
Most of the original small block Pontiac-only brackets are there on the LH side. It has a real #4 water pump at 6.1" length.

The alternator is in upside down, and thus spaced out too far. None of the belts line up right. The AC compressor is no longer there, so there is nothing on the RH side at all.

He appears to have the Pontiac coned 6.1" x 2.2" or so ps 1-groove pulley as shown in the link above.

AHA!
He appears to have pulleys:
"KB" C3 7.8 x 2.8"
unknown ID W3 5.7 x 3" <== AHA!
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Whereas the correct set for such an engine would be:
"ZP" S1 [Steering, 1-groove] '79 T/A 403 6.6L; mates:
#4 = 6.1 Water Pump &
"LA" C3 = 8.1 x 2.5;
"LD" W3 = 5.7 x 3.7 <== Needs a longer deeper pulley on that WP

Then, he would have that aftmost groove that his stuff needs.

The pulleys database comes in handy again.

If anyone can confirm the pulleys used on a T/A or similar 403, that would be super. I have the chassis service manual but it's not real specific on part numbers let alone part ID stampings or actual measurements that might help us 30 yrs later.

Here's a thought
What if we use the RH alternator brkts from 68-72
is it possible to use G-body PS pump and brackets with RH alternator mount?

Oh yeah
Pontiac 403's are SMALL BLOCKS
this guy is using a BIG BLOCK
those brackets will never work right
Probably have to convert to 68-76 big block Olds everything

Chris,

I'm not following the 455 part of this. The link you provided is for a 403. The photos in that link don't show ALL the brackets. I've got a set of photos of the T/A brackets that I'll email to you directly. The brackets shown in the link are deck height independent, but there's an additional upper alternator bracket not shown that bolts to one of the intake bolts to provide stability. Obviously that one doesn't work on a BBO.

I assume the reason the T/A brackets are different from all other Olds brackets is desire to keep the accessories in the same place that they are on the Poncho motor.

By the way, except for the T/A (and 350 Olds motor Firebirds), all 1968-1990 Olds PS pump brackets interchange and put the pump in exactly the same place. The differences are where the PS pump bracket bolts to the alternator bracket. On the 1968-1971-ish cars there's the triangular bracket that goes from the PS pump bracket to the first exhaust manifold bolt. On later models this was integrated with the alternator upper bracket for A/C cars.

Thx guys
I was digging in the garage last night and I found a big honkin' ALT bracket from the 70's that just bolts to the LH head, has the adjustment slot AND the alt pivot holes, looks stand-alone to me.

Mr. Pontiac's setup is fer sure missing an alt brace that sucker moves quite a bit when running.
