72 Cutlass Supreme Convertible with a 350. I'm just wondering if anyone has an opinion on the best manufacturer? Fusick only sells the AC Delco.

Follow-up question: If I'm changing the points, should I go ahead and change the condenser?

Thanks

Brand, I don't know but would expect AC Delco to be fine unless it is a high revving performance application. Change the condenser? Yes.

All new AC Delco parts are imported. I just went through this problem with my 69 wagon. If you can find New Old Replacement Stock Delco points in the foil box, those are good. I just installed Accel points, condenser, and coil in my car and so far so good, but I don't have a lot of miles on these parts yet. The previous ones (Standard Motor Products) crapped out at 2700 miles.

Look for the Delco points Joe mentioned in the foil box on ebay. The part number is 1931988 and the condenser is 1932004.

Man o man this is a bummer to find out that there's so many duds out there. How can such a basic part be manufactured so poorly? I always thought these things were extremely reliable.

It's been half a century since a car left the factory with points. And it actually isn't the points that are the problem, it's the condenser. When these go bad, they cause the points to pit far more quickly.

The points I just bought from O'Reillys, the contacts didn't meet flush. Manufacturers defect. But I agree with Joe's take on the condenser.

Thanks Glenn for the direct to eBay for the Delco Remy new old stock.

I notice Amazon's pretty cagey about stating where they were manufactured. Was a point of origin listed in your shipping info?

Do you really have to ask?
Never mind Amazon. Holley (who owns the Accel brand now) doesn't even list COO.

Yup, we'll see. I will say that the Accel cap and rotor I bought were extremely well made. Heavy bakelite and brass terminals like the old Delco parts. And they were black, not tan.

Which one did you pick up Joe, if you don't mind me askin? I've been looking for some good quality ignition parts recently.

Go on ebay and put in a search for the old delco’s. Or search the for sale thread on here. I bought a couple sets off somebody on this site a few years back..

I sold a set or two to somebody on this site....may have been Andy...don't remember and I periodically clear out my PM box so no record there.

I have a few of these NOS sets left but don't have any condensors.

Send PM if any interest.

The very very best ever is the old === Standard Blue Streak === with all Copper Contacts , the Screw for Adjustment, and their own innovation , the bracket with the wick that , kept wet, will eliminate all side to side play on the distributor….

Discontinued nine ( 9 ) years ago —- my guys demand quality —- so I still have *** BLUE STREAK POINTS *** , *** BLUE STREAK CONDENSERS *** , *** BLUE STREAK ROTORS *** , BLUE STREAK CAPS ( BLUE in Color ) and
*** N.O.S. DELCO U.S.A. ( BLACK in Color )….. ( I spent $ 25,000 9 years ago so I would have it for the Quality Seeking Men and Women….. )

Always best to simply call me —- 516 - 485 - 193five —- Craig….

Craig, I might take a few of those Blue Streak points and condensers off your hands in the fall.

They can be. The ones in my 69 are 10 years old and have 35,000 city miles on them. Car came with some receipts and some paperwork but can't find anything on the points. The previous owner had verbally told me the car received a full tuneup in 2014.

Maybe thats whats in my car. Never seen anything like it. Been driving a points ignition vehicle on and off since 1985. My ride when in day to day use will start before the key is fully turned. Idles great runs strong. Have tried to change them out a few times over the years. Both old school mechanics that Ive known for decades and are considerably older than me tell me not to touch them till I really have to. One told me point blank what's in the car is the gold standard. What I bought to replace it with is a Mickey Mouse set.
