hope this is the right place ..I didn't see a swap specific section, for the obvious reason

first of all i don't know if this is the right forum but here goes

so the BOP patterns on the transmissions

could I possibly bolt a 350 in a 63 grand prix just to tow the barge while i rebuild the 389?

i seem to recall the 63 389 starter is mounted differently (on the block i think)

so does anyone think this is possible ...or should i go to a pontiac forum with this question?

 

You're better off with a poncho engine if you just want a temp while you rebuild the original. There is just too much to change to make it worth while to drop an olds engine in there just for the time being.

63 Pontiac 389 engine has the starter attached to the transmission housing, at least the automatics. More problems are the converter snug ( Is this english?) in the hydramatic transmission, if its a auto car your talking about. BOP Patter should bee the same but,many different things in this swap.

 

I think the early Pontiacs use a different bellhousing bolt pattern - it's not the normal BOP.

 

That very well could be the case as well.
I just don't know yet, at any rate I know there is some kind of difference that was to be of concern.

 

Maybee, the real early pontiacs´s have different bellhousing pattern. I have checked a 63 Poncho 389 block with a BOP TH 350 trans and they have the same boltpattern. The bolt size is UNC 7/ 16 in the block

 

if it makes any difference ...it does have the slim-jim roto-10
