Olds 350 rocket
Olds 350 rocket
Hello Oldsmobile enthusiasts. I have an issue with my 73 engine tues over but won't start up. I check spark it's there I check fuel is there. Timing marks were off but did step by step and put them as close as possible . cam mark at 12oclocl and crank at 6. Went and tryed and start and nothing. Help please any ideas or tips are apreciarse...
Yes both valves should be closed at #1 TDC on the compression stroke and the rockers/valves should not move if the crank is moved slightly in either direction.
At the same time the valves on #6 should be closed but open with any movement in either direction of the crank.

Timing marks were off but did a step by step and put them as close as possible. What "timing marks" are you referring to ?
Are you sure you are on the compression stroke for #1 ? How did you determine that you were on the compression stroke ?
When did the engine run last time ? What have you done to it since it ran ?
Why do I get the feeling we are not being told everything ? A total of 4 posts and all 4 are on this thread. No posting on the Newbie forum. Cam/crank timing marks ? How would you see them if the engine was assembled?

Well oldster thats as much as i know . guy o bought it from got the car the same way dead engine he said he didn't lay a hand on the car . now it does have bent pushrods on on cylender #2 only all rockers lloverá great. And i am new here lol guy suggest to sing up and get some info. I took the engine apart to see if the timing was right do that itll turnover but won't start.and yes i did do the step by step part..as for the timming marks on both the top gear and the small bottom veas. Yes both valves are closed at tdc. And Well i still have it apart....
You can install it with the crank at 12:00 and cam at 6 or 12. The difference is whether the engine is firing on #1 or #6. Depending on how its installed, you would have to turn the crank one full turn to install the distributor.
