Olds 307 oil pump change
Good day to you all!
I have a small question. My 87 Oldsmobile 307 with 60.000miles (100.000kms) has a bad waterpump so i was changing the waterpump and found out that it was leaking from the timing cover seal. Now that i have to replace the front seal the oil pan has to come of so i might as well put a new chain and gear set on. Will it be necessary to the change the oil pump to? Or do they almost never go bad? And what about the fuel pump cirkel on the timing gear? I dont know the name of it. I also read that a true roller edelbrock chain and gearset would be even better than the original.
Thanks in advance,
Greetings from Belgium.

If the motor is clean inside do not change the oil pump, leave the original proven one in there. Same for fuel pump eccentric (circle).
Get the best chain and gears as recommended by someone on the forum that has done camshaft indexing and/or a lot of engine building. Accuracy matters on this. A knowledgeable member will answer what brand and type soon.
Good luck!!!

If the front crankshaft seal was leaking, inspect the place where the seal contacts for a worn groove. If there is any groove get a repair sleeve to go over the groove. It is a sleeve that gives a new surface for the seal to contact. You could likely replace the seal without pulling the cover but that is up to you. A new timing chain is good preventative maintenance anyway.
Good luck!!!
