Oil Smell under acceleration

What would cause a burning oil smell under hard acceleration? If I step on it, its like a puff of burned oil smell goes by, then goes away as quickly as it came. I don't notice it if I hit the throttle while under the hood - only while driving. It may just be part of the vintage car experience, but it is rather annoying.

I know I have a minor leak on my intake manifold gasket. Would that cause it?

Only other thing I can think of is oil from the PVC to the carb, but the PVC valve seems to be working properly.

What advice can you pass on to the newbie?

You might consider fixing the leak and see if it goes away. Also check your valve cover gaskets. Under heavy throttle the engine pumps a bunch of oil up there and a leak would find its way on to the exhaust system.
