Oil Sending Unit Help (Canister)

I need to hook up the oil sending unit to an electric oil pressure gauge. From what I understand I need to install that canister. The problem everyone probably knows is its sitting on that little "shelf" and wont fit in the stock location. Is that where they installed the stock units that had gauges, or were they in a different spot. The only thing I can think of doing is adding extensions to have it clear the top of the manifold. But that would look down right sloppy. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

(Pictures would be a plus )

Just got an idea (I'm actually thinking about it, not just taking the easy way out and asking you guys, lol). What if I install the copper tubing like I would if I were sending it to a mechanical unit but just installed the copper tubing into the electrical sender in a remote location. But I can't think of a good place to route the copper tubing without making that look cheesy as well...hmmm...

The correct factory installation uses a special brass fitting that is about 2" long and has a 45 deg angle at the top where the sender screws in. You can get these from the usual Olds restoration parts sources. If you don't care about originality, go to your local home improvement or hardware store and just get a 1/8" NPT nipple (about 1.5" or 2" long) and a straight connector or 45 deg fitting.

Funky looking it is, factory style....

Here is a picture, though not quite the right angle, but you will at least see how it looks.
