Oil Pan Removal 63 F85

Has anyone removed the oil pan from a 63 F85 without lifting the motor? The service manual reads...
1. Remove the dipstick.
2. Hoist car and drain oil.
3. Disconnect idler arm from relay rod.
4. Remove the cover on the front of lower fly
wheel housing and remove pan bolts.
NOTE: On some types of lifts, it may be
necessary to drop the oil intake into the pan
before removing pan. The crankshaft should
be positioned so the counterweights do not
interfere with the pan removal.

Having done all that I am bumping into the flywheel as I try and remove the pan. Any suggestions?

I have worked on 64 / 65 71 / 72s and even with the engine lifted could not get
the pan off, partly because what you ran into. So I just pull the engines and not
even try anymore.

Which are COMPLETELY different from the 215 engine and 1963 unibody Cutlass. Sorry, but none of that experience applies here.

Radio Silence...

Really...? I'm the only person to have come across this issue? The first bit of advice I received on this site was that being such a "newbie" I should locate a service manual...having done that and followed every step completely I'm wondering if my next best step is to burn this f'n thing? Is it common that the instructions in these things are not correct? Do I really have to go through the process of pulling the motor and trans just to drop an oil pan? Anyone looking for a piece of crap 63 F85 with an oil pan almost removed. BEST OFFER!

Well this must be the same person who had low oil pressure on his 215 Olds.
Did you get a factor manual or an aftermarket one?
Since you still bump into the flywheel, why not lift the engine just enough to clear the flywheel?
Did you find the oil pump mounted on the front engine cover, just above the oil filter you took off?
