Oil Fill Tube removal

I read where you could tap the oil fill tube with a rubber mallet (side-to-side) to remove it. Is this the only way or is there a better way? I thought maybe using a rubber strap wrench to twist it back and forth.

Any thoughts?

From what I have read here most people leave that thing in even for machine work cause it usually gets destroyed during removal.

Well, I definitely don't want to destroy it. So, maybe I will leave it be. I was just looking to paint it and figured it would be easier with it removed.

When ya put it back in IMHO it looks better if the ears on the cap are sticking out right to left parrallel with the core support

Good to know, I will give it a shot.

I agree, I will make sure to orient it that way.

X2 I put mine back in and realized I had it a little crocked....just had to straighten it out....if you are doing engine work, while the timing cover is off, use a pry bar from inside and it just pops up pretty easy.

I used a mallet and a block of wood, this way the strikes of the mallet didn't mess up the tube. I also used said tube on top to push the new tube in

I replaced my tube on the 330 because the stock tube had a clip in style cap and it was all dented anyway.

I have a cap in the car for the new tube, but yes I agree, I have to see if it's "right"

I just remove the oil tube from my 350. Had the engine in a stand turned upside down, taped it side to side with a mallett then I put a regular hose clamp around the small section and tap on it as I rotated it around. Came right out.
