New sylinder heads for 371??
Hi!
My 1957 leaks coolant water, when I loosen the exhaust manifold bolt nearest to driver and lower. It was weird for me...
I think it comes from that bolts hole.
Is my cylinder head broken or what??
If it is, where can I get one?
Confused and inexperienced,
Juho

It's normal for those engines, Juho. Weird, but normal. There are several bolts that call for thread sealer on 371/394. A 1957 Olds Chassis Service manual will show you which ones, or someone here may have one thay can scan for you.

I meant to add that the bolts that require sealer actually penetrate into the water passages, which is why they require sealer on the threads.
I don't know why Oldsmobile did that, but I think some other carmakers did it too.
