Does anyone know how I can positivly identify my old Olds engine? This was an old blower motor that I have taken apart, with a 4" bore and about a 3.625 stroke (close to a stock 371). The pistons are nearly flat, with only a slight dome. I haven't taken the bottom end apart yet, but now I'm not sure if it's a 324 bored to 4" or a stock bore 371. Does anyone have casting numbers for the block and heads for these engines? I'd like to verify what I've got before going farther. It's also running an Engle 116 cam, which I need specs on if anyone knows. Thanks, Rob

The 324 was built from 1954 to 1956:
Engine block Casting Number 568922

The 371 was built from 1957 to 1960:
Engine Casting Number 573562

One sure way to tell, if you have the engine down, is to measure the Main Bearing DIA.
324: 2.498 - 2.499 (#1-4) 2.623 - 2.625 (#5)
371: 2.748 - 2.750 (57 & 58) 2.999 - 3.00 (59 & 60)
