new to forum, have a Horsepower question

I have just purchased a 1979 Trans Am with a 403 Olds in it. the Engine has been significantly modded and I was hoping to get some guidance as to the horsepower you feel it may have

The build sheet/invoice from the engine builder lists

1979 403

#5 Olds heads - stage one ported, totally rebuilt
Roller Rockers
Olds 403 4.381 pistons
Edelbrock Performer RPM Manifold
Camshaft on invoice says comp cams 42-223-4
Hooker Headers Super Comp 1.75
Dual exhaust with magna flow mufflers
Stock rebuilt Q-Jet
Blockers K&N shaker scoop modification
Recurved Distributor
Moroso 7 qt oil pan

it also has
rebuilt TH350 with stage two shift kit
Mondello Billet flex plate
Mondello 2500 stall torque converter
Auburn Posi
373 Gears

Any guidance as to the power you feel it makes and the ET you think this would run is greatly appreciated.

I'm going 300-325 rwhp. Hard to guess not knowing CR or cam specs. My other guess would be that it has a low/mid 13 qtr mile in it.

No HP guesses but I would say low 13's. Should be able to get into the high 12's too. Depends on CR, cam, actual head work done etc. On paper it looks like it would haul some butt, but I've seen many nice 'on paper' builds drasticaly under perform as well as extremely mild builds 'over' perform. Depends on tune and attention to detail.

Super Comp Olds 1.75...not sure what that means..but anyway, 13 second car, especially with the gears, a little over 300 RWHP maybe...

250-275rwhp based on 9.0:1 and a cam in the 215-220@.050 range. Remember those only made 180-200 at the crank to begin with.

Agree. That is totally meaningless as far as camshafts go. Sounds more like info on the headers to me, as in Hooker Super Comps with 1.75" diameter tubes.

As others have said, the compression ratio and camshaft specs need to be known in order to determine a meaningful estimate of power.

I believe Fun71 is right and that number is for the headers and not the camshaft. I looked closer at the parts list and I think the number on the camshaft is an XE268E extreme energy. I don't know much about these so I am posting images of the parts list and the engine assembly data. The engine assembly data sheet lists the compression ratio at 9.44, i am going to assume that means 9.44 to 1

Here is a link to the camshaft

here are photos of the engine parts list and the engine assy data

Daaaaang...this is something that is almost never included with a car sale, consider yourself lucky. I still stick with my original statement...good 13 second cruiser. Should be a lot of fun.

I am fortunate, EVERY bill for parts and mechanical work came in a file (thick) with the Trans Am. My thoughts are this documentation enhances its value at most and at least has given me a list of the work done. You are correct I do consider it good fortune to have this info about my car .
