New Distributor for 1970 cutlass 350, recomendations?

Need to get a new distributor for the 70 Cutlass 350? What models/brands do you guys recommend? Want to increase performance and reliability. Thanks

Unless your old distributor has some issues, a new one won't increase performance.

I had an original points distributor set up with quality points, cap, rotor, recurve kit, and an aftermarket performance coil. It worked well to 6000 RPM. I swapped to a GM HEI distributor with quality cap, rotor, module, recurve kit, and a performance aftermarket coil. There was no absolutely difference in performance between the two.

If you truley have to replace yours, DO NOT BUY ONE OF THE CHINESE KNOCKOFFS, They do not fit the block and they wear out long before a good brand will. I would recommend a Pertronix, an MSD, Mallory, or any name brand. It might be more costly, but better value in the long run.

X2, I'm happy with the DUI unit I purchased. A little expensive but good quality.

This may not be the best path for that destination.

an hei install (good luck finding used ones) will fire plugs in oil and they dont break too often.

Otherwise I dont see the words 'cheap part' next to too many of the new alternatives out there today

I bought an Olds HEI on eBay for $42. No more pow pow pow thru the exhaust when I remove my foot from the pedal. Works great and has lasted many miles. much better than points.

A 1979 Hurst Olds already had an HEI distributor when it left the factory.

... Unless you mean a different car than the one listed under your avatar.

You are correct. I replaced the factory HEI with another one. There was a noticeable increase in performance. More complete burn in combustion chamber and none or much less in exhaust.
