OK, that picture isn't jumping out at me. What kind of engine do you think it is? Or what does the seller say it is? Can you share with us an overall photo?

Buick?

OK, we need an overall photo of it. And the title needs to have that in it. There are some 1950's guru's here but they will likely need to see more. The casting numbers on the heads can help, valve cover type will also be an indicator.

I also added 1957 to your title.

Also, the 1957 would be a 371. You may already know, but the 303 is late 1940's to early 1950's. The 324 was mid-1950's.

OK, I agree with you the valve cover looks more correct for a 324, 303 so I edited your title again. We'll see what the others comment.

Really not enough pictures but if the head number is a #2 it may be a 52 303. The only thing is most of the early heads 49- 52 generally weren't numbered, I've heard of exceptions on 52 just to confuse the issue. The valve covers are the right color for a mid fifties 52 and up to 56 but not a 57. Did you notice if the distributor had a window for points adjustment or not? If so it would be a 56 or later engine that is if nothing has been changed in the last 65 years or so. Someone should have the range on the engine number but I don't have that information here to check. Doubtful if this helped a lot but maybe someone else has a better idea.... Tedd

The valve covers are actually like a 52. The ones on my 54 (324) are smooth on the ends. Sorry John you may have to edit again.

By chance is it still 6 volt or does it have a 6 volt starter still in it? That would also point to a 303. I would buy it no matter what size Old's engine it had, it's high in the cool factor..... Tedd
