need to get a smaller carb?

I am wondering if my edelbrock 650 cfm might be to big for a pretty much stock 350. have been told recently that I should go lower then that. As I am still learning, edelbrock is the easiest for me to learn on, and have been told to try a 500 or 550cfm. What do you guys think?

If your using the stock manifold you need a spread bore to square bore adapter and a switched hot lead for the choke.

X2 on the 650 being correct. Just tune it. It is the right carb. Go on youtube and search for how to tune what you have. It's fun and the car will run really well. I did this with my Vette and had great results. It had a 650 square bore DP. Plenty of carb.

BTW a 1406 is a 600, not a 650.

Agree its a 600 cfm and its the low perf. style carb. I perfer the 1405 . I have used y 1405 on many engines ( loaned it alot ) and there was not an engine it has not worked on. its currently on my dad's 350 olds powered 77 pontiac boneville.

Yeah, it is the "economy" carb, but that can be remedied with a calibration kit.
