Motor Mount Heat Shields & Headers?

I've owned four Oldsmobile A-bodies over the years, and none of them had the heat shields on the motor mounts. None of these cars had headers, all of them had the factory cast iron manifolds. I'm getting ready to install headers and the full exhaust system on my project which leads me to these questions:
1. Do the head shields really help extend the lifespan of the motor mounts?
2. Will the heat shields even fit with headers?

Here's a link to the heat shields: https://www.opgi-static.com/common/C...v=103020131004

Oh, and it's a small block with Hooker 3901 headers. Thanks!

Over the years I've come across dozens of these. I'm thinking if they didn't work the factory wouldn't have gone to the trouble and expense. Not sure about fitment with headers, but if it were me I'd try installing it on the engine stand and see if the headers fit OK.

I installed Hooker 3901’s and I had to modify the heat shield on the drivers side. I started to leave it off entirely but the header comes awfully close.

Thanks for the advice! I'll have to look for a Black Friday deal on a pair of these.

If you don't mind cleaning up a used set I'm pretty sure I could come up with a couple.

I wouldn't waist your money on cheap material aftermarket stampings myself . Thin material , although formed with darts for strength to keep then from rattling too much. Even painted they will rust in no time.
I would just find a pair like 2blu442 offered up IMO.

John:
How much would you want for a pair of these heat shields and do you think you could find a good set? In Line Tube sells them for $19 each but not sure about the thickness/quality of the stamping. I've had enough problems with repop'd parts to make me want some salvaged stock parts. I would want a solid pair; i.e. not rusted out, thin metal, pin holes, etc. Thanks!

I dig around and find a couple good ones for you. Likely greasy but not rusty.
