, that will depend on your paint you using and how thick or thin it is lol, always a good idea to consult the data sheet. I like to personally use a 1.5 for may paint applications with a HVLP. I don't use an HVLP alot since I'm an industrial painter lol but I'm sure there are automotive painters here on the board that could recommend there goto setup.

Well I got my Hyd roller cam and roller lifters in, thanks Mark. The machinist got my crank polished back up, I will be getting 4.100 mahle pistons and new rods in the middle of March, so I hope to get this build going around the end of march. I really hope that the new 350 heads will be available by June, I would love to get this new motor in this summer

Glad the crank was useable. Sounds like it is all on track to a great 350 build.

Thanks, cant wait to see what your doing as well lol, couldn't have been to bad since he told me to order 10 under bearings for the mains and rods. He's not gonna do any block work until I get him the pistons.

Obviously better than it looked on the crank, always good news. I have to wait to order the custom pistons till I know what the block will clean up at, opposite of your build. I don't think there has been this many 350 builds at once on this site ever. They are great motors, at least to me.

I am already close to 5000 grand and that is with low mile heads already done at a super price of $400. Already had the intake and my stock stroke 330 crank was bought so long ago, I can't remember what it cost. I would think my machine shop bill will be $1000 easy. Yeah, I am also waiting on my pistons but my shop just bored to the dimensions I gave them. Hopefully we see them at our door in a month's time.

My customer built this for 11000.00 including 1500.00 for the factory W-30 intake, with dyno testing

and it has VERY good parts inside, and even some parts you can't buy, not to mention a blue printed crank, machined for a pilot bearing, Made 547 verified HP with a 232 @ .050 hyd cam.

Very nice build, impressive numbers and the price point looks right, thats why I was posting numbers, lots here think 7 grand is way to much for a build, well 7 grand would be a bargain doing an olds, it not chebby pricing lol.

With out that intake and with production heads, power would have been similar, but price would have been in the 7000.00-8000.00 range.

Amen. Only thing keeping me under $7500 is my low mile #6 heads, again $400 for probably $1500 parts and work. I got the roller lifters very slightly used from Mark, I think that saved $300 US as well. It was at a time when we had a ton of extra expenses, glad I got them. Some things take priority over my Oldsmobile. Now my build until I step up to more cam and the Edelbrock heads, will only make 350 HP and 400 ft/lbs. That leads me to another issue, the transmission. I added CK's bigger boost valves and their improved GN servo is on the way, this trans looked like a possible recent rebuild, I will be pushing it's limit. There is no way a stock TH350 will live behind even my planned motor. I have seen a few go up in smoke behind no power. I'm talking the mid 70's 160 HP Oldsmobile 350's. The TH2004R will cost me around $1200 US in parts alone. If I add aluminum heads and more cam, goodbye pin for the grenade on my current 2004R. The 4L80E, easily the same cost with meh gearing but massive strength. The 700R4 is similar cost for junk IMHO. That leaves a TH400 which still needs a yoke and shortened drive shaft or a factory used TH400 shaft. That won't be far off $750, talking a good used working trans, also a shift kit and converter. Also mine being a 70 with the Type O, the 3.90 gears, posi, bearings and seals will set me back about $1000 US. That is on the list for next year with along with body panels. I think there will be a similar list done on my thread. Hopefully we see pistons shortly, hopefully my two sets ordered will push the batch number needed for Mahle to make more. Let's hope luck is with us.

Looks like a nice grind. Mark has a 218/218 .525"/.525" on a 112 LSA in stock, good for my current compression, goals and drive train. I know there is/was a shortage on cam blanks, so an available cam better than a generic grind in a roller is good enough for me. I don't need a pile of parts and no cam to finish. After having a cam go flat, a roller with no break in or special oil is a nice upgrade.

About another month has gone by since the last Update so here is the status June 05 2021

Mark has rods and rockers Still don't have an ETA on the Mahle pistons, Marks going to check on that. I ordered the FlowKooler 1776 HV water pump today
When I order parts for the oiling system I think I will buy a stock pump, should I re use the old pan? do they get out of square easily?, or upgrade to the BB pan? what's everyone preference for the fuel pump?

Hopefully Flowkooler has one on the shelf, I waited over a month for my reverse rotation model, another guy, twice that long. I have had good luck with the Carter Muscle car series fuel pumps, cheap and reliable. Yeah, the BBO pan is a decent upgrade, the deeper mid pan and baffle are good things. I am also waiting on pistons, was scared to ask Mark, not his fault. Everything HOPEFULLY is fully machined for my 358 and I am just waiting for the pistons so a proper balancing weight can be determined. Good luck.

Should get the water pump right away, said there was 8 in stock (Summit), mine was the non ac version. There are alot of part venders not making anything atm, I have a buddy that waited 3 months for brakes. Thanks for the tip on the fuel pump, I will check that out. So looks like I will be better off with the BB pan, I hope your build goes really good for you.

If we both get pistons from Mahle, things will go much better for both of us. The machine shop has had issue with getting parts from Mahle, hopefully it is all systems go, good luck to you as well.

I like Mahle pistons, but heres the problem with Mahle USA, they don't like to work, the person I deal with there even before the wuhan virus had every excuse in the book not to work, Racetec likes to work, they get the majority of my work now.

I understand that the vendors cant make big batch's of Oldsmobile parts, they would have alot of revenue tied up in surplus that would take to long to move. They say good things come to those who wait lol

I was hoping my two sets of pistons would push them over their magic number to make pistons😉. Yes, waiting has been par for the course, almost 6 months my block, hopefully will pick it up this week. I want pressure wash, clean, WD-40 and cover it next weekend. The machine shop, didn't mention the manufacturer, they have been waiting 6 months for at least a couple camshafts as well. Our Province, Saskatchewan is opening back up, Manitoba is still locked down, thanks to Winnipeg.

I use Racetec too but I’ve been waiting 3 months for a set of 12:1 2618 330 Olds pistons.
And Mahle does more in an hour than Racetec does in a month. Mahle does a ton of OE pistons, Racetec doesn’t do any.

I never wait more than 2 weeks delivered ever for a Racetec, but I'am using custom pistons that might be the difference.

Ya think? As usual you don’t give the whole story up front and consequently you mislead everybody. I’m pretty sure they don’t keep a 12:1 330 piston on the shelf. And even two weeks for a shelf piston is too long in my opinion.

Not angry, just disappointed that you’re still such a Richard Cranium. I was hoping for a positive change at some point, oh well.

Water pump is on the way, I ended up getting the Carter fuel pump, got some belts, and some new rad hoses, I couldn't find a hose with the spring in it, guess the hoses don't collapse with the new materials lol, should I take the old one out and use it in the new hose?

Yes, you should always have a " spring " inside the lower hose .

Haven't updated this thread in a while, Its just a slow build waiting on parts and what not but I updated the parts list in post 87 if anybody cares to see, didn't really get any good pics or clearances numbers but the bottom end is pretty much done, but the top end part of the build will have to wait since I need or should say want the new sb heads

Looking good. I threw my #6 iron heads on the 403 I picked up for $250 just so I "need" the new SB heads😁.

hey, I’m in Toronto and looking at at rebuild on my olds 350. Do you mind sharing which machine shop you used? And where you source most of your parts?

I used a small shop, Perfection Engine. I used many places for parts, but for the performance parts, I got them from Mark (cutlassefi), He is on this site.

I picked up the Speedmaster heads for Blackfriday, I have a few questions if you guys could kindly help. For the Hyd roller springs what make and part num is preferred with this head (post 98 is my cam card), I'm also going to use Marks custom 1.6 Olds rockers with comp 857-16 lifters. , I was thinking these EDL-5845

2. Looking for make and part num for the right roller rocker studs, I was thinking these EDL-8599

3. Looking for make and part num for guide plates, I was thinking these EDL-9668

That was a good buy. Yes, the guide plates are 9668. The 8598 is for 3/8" rocker arms on 7/16" base threads, Mark's are 7/16". I bought the shortest ARP set I could find, check when I get home. Looks like 5845 is right for the RPM head. Let us know what you set CC at and what you cut off them and the intake. Glad you can finish up your 350.
