Inteak help!!
Inteak help!!
I need to know what I need to get when I pull my inteak off, some people have told me that when a motor gets rebuilt with an aluminum inteak that they get rid of the vallypan and have just a gasket. Then some people tell me that I should get a vally pan and put it back on, I know the vally pan holds the hot oil, but what should I get do I get another vally pan and a gasket? Or do I get just a gasket or just a vally pan, please help I'm lost and the motor is a 350 olds thanks guys!
Depends on what you are doing with the car. the hot oil splashing up on the bottom of the intake is not going make to much difference in a street car. So if you are not worried about it just grab some gaskets and put it together. The best thing you could do is buy a aftermarket valley tray (all the big guys sell them for olds) get some nice quailty intake gasket and install
If I remember right when using the old turkey tray with a alum intake caused a lot of leaks

It probably "wooden" be a good idea to use an "inteak" gasket.
Now if we're talking about an inTAKE gasket, the factory used the metal gasket under aluminum as well as iron intakes. I've found that the people who say they don't work with aluminum have simply not been installing them correctly.

I would argue that the hot oil hitting the intake makes any difference. It's not any hotter than the exhaust going thru it.

And thanks for having a sense of humor. If you do decide to go with the stock metal gasket, be sure to get the four bosses at the corners seated in the four outermost bolt holes. This is one place where people mess up. And use RTV around the water ports on both sides of the intake.
