well spent most of the day online and found a nice deal, 1970 olds 350 with th350 trans 300 bucks!! he told me he pulled it 10 years ago from his 1970 cutlass 4dr and its been sitting since, i'm wondering what should i look for when checking it out, how can i crank the engine over via the stater with a battery? can i use parts from my 84 olds 307 like manifolds, carbs, intake, heads? what work am i gonna need to do to it? i dont have much money in fact thats most of my money i have saved up for the car right now. you guys think its a good deal, should i try talking him down since its been sitting for a while?

 

300 bucks is pretty fair.
The #6 heads are worth 150 by themselves.
Block and crank maybe 100 more.
If all accessories are on it.... there's your 300

 

ok well i'm going thursday to check it out if i like it i'm buying it right there, its a pretty good deal i guess plus it comes with the transmission, is there anything i should look for when i check it out, casting numbers? trans ID, will #6 be on the heads to ID it? the engine has a 2bbl carb, i was wondering is it possible for me to either install the intake off my 84 olds 307 or even just the carb? will the #6 heads ports line up correctly with my 307 intake?

sweet, thanks J, getting a motor is like xmas morning to me lol i just hope it looks ok when i check it out, im skeptical cause its been sitting for the last 10 years but he said its not seized and turns over by hand without a problem (no starter), he said it ran when pulled from his 70 cutlass. o and a 307 starter will work right? the motor doesnt have one and my 307 has a brand new starter put in 2 years ago, will the starter be powerful enough to crank a 350?, is there anything i need to modify for this swap its going in my 84 delta 88. i'm also gettin the th350 with the motor he said 6" tailshaft it will swap in place of the th200c? without modifications? (hopefully) thanks guys for the help i really appreciate it this is my first real motor swap so i wanna make sure i got every base covered on this

 

You take the wire from the starter and touch it to the battery. Have a gas can with the fuel line in it for gas. Don't let it run too long without coolant.

If you 307 has 5A heads, you can swap the manifold. You might have to use the exhaust manifolds too. I know on my 68, the exhaust manifolds had a center exit, which is where the motor mounts will go.

You can see if the motor turns free. Use a 1 1/8" socket and breaker bar on the bolt in the balancer

 

sweet thanks for the info redog, since jerseys strict on emissions i was planning on keeping the computer controled carb and everything, so they cant give me a hard time. and yes i do believe its the 5a heads since its an 84 engine, it seems this should be a quick and easy job hopefully

 

l i bought motor and trans, looks pretty good it had 94,000 miles when pulled now the fun part of figuring out the wires that were still connected to the motor i'll post pics tomorrow maybe someone can help

 

well day 2 today hopefully gonna pull the starter from my 307 to use on the 350, gonna pick up some oil to squirt down the spark plug holes to help lube the pistons and such gonna clean the carb a bit and maybe tonight i might try starting it to see what happens, everything appears to be there but i can tell i'm gonna need help with the vacuum hose routing, i know one vacuum line has to go the th350's vacuum modular , the others i'm at a complete lose, gonna try to get a diagram online
