Rocker arms Stud Size?

I am a little confused... what size rocker arms studs do Olds 350 cylinder heads have? I have seen 3/8", 5/16" and 7/16".

The stock rocker bridge bolt is 5/16. 3/8 and 7/16 are aftermarket stud sizes

Thanks, I am looking to buy aluminum roller rockers with 7/16" screw in studs (Comp Cams 1044). And they need guides plates but they only come in 5/16" or 3/8" for the mounting holes (not the pushrod opening).

Does this make sense, I have never mounted a set, so I am just guessing at this point.

The 7/16 refers to the rocker stud size going through the rocker arm. So that means you need a set of screw in 7/16 studs to screw into the head. Your heads will have to be machined. As far as the guide plates I've never seen 5/16 mounting holes but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Are you sure it's not referring to pushrod diameter for the guide? 5/16 and 3/8 are common pushrod sizes is why I ask. Someone has to make 7/16 mounting hole guide plates. It's too common a size. Otherwise you're looking at drilling a set of the 3/8 ones out to 7/16.

Comp Cams makes a kit that has everything you need:

The guy I was going to buy the rockers from just told me that they were installed on Edelbrock heads and the guide plates came with them. Oh, well, I was going to get a good deal, but I don't want to mickey mouse things together.

Oh, BTW, Comp Cams tech service is completely useless. I talked to 2 different people and ask the same questions and they both gave me different answers.

The bolt holes in the heads are stock tread 5/16´. this means that you have to buy aftermarket studs that have this tread at the fastener side. What I have come to se? is that it is almost comp cams alone who stock that stud. I am a little worried myself at this time if comp stud have enough length at the rocker side, depending of what type of rocker and what sppring lengt you have. maybee someone else could fill in the blanks here?

The only stud that Comp Cams carries that is close is: 3/8" base thread with a 7/16" stud at the rocker end. They don't make a 5/16" base thread to 7/16" stud. The length of the 3/8"x7/16" stud is 1.9"

Exactly, Defiant you don't need a 7/16 stud size on the rocker side, 3/8 is plenty, find a 1.6 rocker for 3/8 studs and you'll be fine.

Yeah, I realize I didn't need 7/16" studs, but I was going to get that set for less money then a 5/16" base thread stock set.

I see varying opinions on comp cams products (as far as rocker arms go). Anybody have any practical experience.
