Fuel Pump 1956 super 88 olds

Hi, I would like to replace the mechanical fuel pump (which needs major overhaul) by an electric one. So here come the questions:
1/ What should be the fuel pressure fo the Rochester 4 barrel carb.
2/ Should I leave the mechanical fuel pump in place or can I remove it and "plug" the hole with a piece of metal (and would I need a gasket to avoid oil leakage).
Thank for your help.
Gael

How are you going to operate your windshield wipers, I believe that the fuel pump on your car is a vaccum assist style daul chamber pump that keeps the wipers working when you accelerate? The mechanical pump is not that hard to rebuild with a kit.

Well the original wiper motor as been replace by an electric one by previous owner, so it will be faster, easier and more reliable for me to go for electric pump. As I live in France, parts are not so easy to find here.

I bought a Jegs electric fuel pump with a fuel pressure regulator that has a return line to the gas tank. I have no idea what the pressure is set at. I just adjusted it unitl the Carburetor ran proper again. I bought the pump, regulator, and electrical kit for it on www.jegs.com came out to 170 dollars I think thats 130 Euros. For where the old pump was I used the mechanical pumps old gasket for a pattern, then I cut out a 1/8 inch steel cover. I then used some gasket maker silicone. So far over the past 2 months I've had no oil leakage. Where did you find an electric wiper for yours?
Best Regards,
-Mitch
