Found a New Edelbrock Intake In the Garage - Install or Pass?
When I owned a Cutlass a few years ago, the seller was kind enough to include a Brand new Edelbrock 3711 Intake (https://www.summitracing.com/parts/edl-3711) as he hadnt gotten around to installing it. I was more excited to cruise rather than tinker with the car so I put it away on the top of my garage. That car was sold and I had totally forgotten about this new intake until earlier today when I came across it. Luckily I purchased another 71 Cutlass recently that also has the Rocket 350. I dont know much about my 71 and the setup with the Intake appears to be a stock one based on the casting no. 4104460. My car has a Quadrajet Carb (7029250) which I believe is off of a 69 Olds Cutlass. My question is, should I swap the Intake for this Edelbrock one? Any real benefit? If so, is it a direct swap or will I have issues with the Quadrajet? I tend to adhere to the old adage that if it aint broke why fix it, but if there's a performance improvement and its relatively easy to swap, I would consider it.
I am including pictures for reference:
The Performer 350 is a good intake but I doubt you would see any difference in performance over the factory intake. It’s a lot lighter than the iron intake, but just an intake change is not going to give you any difference in performance.
It sure would look nicer than my gold intake (paint is failing in spots) but im not sure its worth the effort for cosmetics as my car is just a driver and not a show car.
It is a direct swap but I think it's an EGR manifold so you might need a block-off plate for that port if not included in the box - the 2711 is what I have which is same intake in all other respects but non-EGR
I know Cutlassefi commented on the ports being smaller than factory iron intake ports. The 40 pound savings is nice. I am currently running that intake on my 70S with a 1" open spacer. It easily spins the 275/60R15 tires.
It won’t rust, grind off the logo, paint it, who’d know the better, performance, who knows, but you’ll save a lot of weight if yours is iron, ditch the boat anchor. I did same on my Poncho, I also got un restricted secondary’s. Win win. It takes a keen eye to spot the edelgarbage
